About the Artist
Gábor Pintér is a young Hungarian representative of the so-called bad painting, the painting school determining the international scene for the past decades. He also creates traditional paintings with oil-canvas technique, paper-based works and installations. His works are genre paintings processing strange situations, and they are critical reflections on today’s consumer society. His expressive canvases are characterized by vivid colors, strong gestures, and thick brush strokes, recording real and hypothetic scenes alike, often conveying realist and surrealist impressions at the same time. However, Pintér does not paint his picture puzzles encouraging a solution through the surrealist combination of everyday objects with the intention of misleading us. Rather, through his paintings he wishes to point out a peculiar phenomenon related to thinking, namely the process of things coming to our mind arbitrarily, unintentionally, without any context or greater narrative; when one image leads to another without any apparent contexture.
