Gergő Kovách works with a vast myth inventory combining art history, folk tale elements and pop culture, and his themes raising gender and social questions, as well as his choice of materials ranging from wrapping paper to bronze are also unlimited. At the same time, his artworks are sculptures in terms of their plastic realization, dimensions and material as well. This sculpturing, however, is not so much related to the traditions of Hungarian sculpture: even though sometimes it operates with local kinds of messages, essentially it uses a completely universal language. His art consciously ruffles the aesthetical feathers, sometimes even bordering on kitsch, only to materialize there as a true value with a special emphasis. This is a value, which seems easy to interpret at first, but actually results from difficult questions and the answers given to them. Although the parody of clichés and idiomatic phrases provides a joking overtone to his artworks, its grotesque, fabulous characters are primarily reactions to a rigid way of thinking and the absurdity of blockheaded traditions.
