A művészről
Delaine Le Bas brit képzőművész, akinek egyedi sorozatai olyan témákkal foglalkoznak, mint a nemzetiség, faj, nemi szerepek. Mediálisan sokszínű munkáiban a festészettől a fotón át, az installációtól a videóig minden műfajban dolgozik. Műveivel elsősorban azokat a feszültségeket igyekszik feldolgozni, amelyek roma származását érintik. Munkáiban a művészet és az etnográfia eggyé válik és élesen nem szétválasztható, szótárában a virágos kendők, a kéziratok, saját levágott hajával dekorált, gazdagon díszített képek és hímzések mind a roma nőiségre utalnak. A 2007-es Velencei Biennálé első roma pavilonjának művészeként Le Bas azt mondta: "Roma művészként az én szemléletmódom mindig a kívülállóké volt, munkáimban így mindig a ’másik’ álláspontja tükröződik. A vegyes értékek és a félreértett üzenetek kultúrájában élünk. Munkáim a jótékonysági üzletek semmibe vett tárgyaiból készülnek.”
