MARTIN LUKÁČ
Broadway and W 125 Street

The Erika Deák Gallery is delighted to present its next exhibition: new paintings by Martin Lukáč.

Lukáč created his latest series of paintings in his new home, New York City. The works are inspired by his immediate neighborhood — this ever-pulsating and constantly changing city. His paintings are dominated by vibrant colors and bold, colourful gestures that capture the essence of the Big Apple, its multicultural atmosphere, and never-sleeping energy, while also incorporating a narrative style reminiscent of graffiti and pop culture imagery.

New York’s vivacious music scene plays a key role in Lukáč’s life. Through his radical, sometimes clashing color combinations and contrasts, he evokes the pulsing rhythms of hip-hop, rap, jazz music in his paintings.

His latest works can also be viewed as unique visual fusions, blending the traditions of abstract expressionism with elements of street art and the visual world of commercial logos. The layered compositions — filled with vibrant gestures and overlapping signs — suggest both the freedom of coexistence in diversity and the legitimacy of difference, while also serving as imprints of Lukáč’s personal mythology.

Martin Lukáč (b. 1989, Piešťany, Slovakia) received his BA in Fine Arts from the Technical University in Košice in 2013, and earned his MA in Painting from the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague in 2016. He was a guest student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in 2014 and at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig in 2015. His works have been exhibited internationally in both solo and group shows and can be found in major private and public collections across Europe and the United States.
