Éva Magyarósi
Eden

The Erika Deák Gallery is delighted to present the long awaited solo exhibition by Éva Magyarósi. She again presents a unique pictorial universe in her new work, in which she uses the medium of installation, drawing and animation. The lyrical and sensitive works appear to be visual diaries at the first, in which she amalgamates fiction and personal narration. After a closer look, Magyarósi reveals the poetry in her precise and authentic world, and we might even realize some parallels with our personal lives.

The giant sand table standing in the middle of the gallery symbolizes the artist’s private bed, what plays an important role in her life.  She shares it with her husband and three children, and that is the place where the most important things happen. 10 short animated films, 10 different tales uncover Magyarósi’s most inner anxieties, joys, perceptions on her present life, on becoming a mother, on changing her life radically.

“The story-circle entitled Eden, hides 10 episodes. They are ten thought-essays about the present situation of my life, a rather global interpretation through a changed perspective: how can you be an artist and a mother at the same time, how your relationship sways you, how you forget the past forever and face towards the futures possibilities. The reason of the personal voice in these works is elaboration. These stories can happen to anyone.” Éva Magyarósi

The paper works can be looked at the pre-studies of the animations. Like the installations and the films, the drawings also interfuse the personal and the universal, the intimate and the public, merge events from the artist’s biography along with possibly collective experiences.

Éva Magyarósi (1981, Veszprém) graduated from Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, Theoretical Studies, Department of Animation in 2005. She primarily known for her video work, but she also did pupet animations and music videos. Her set designs were seen in movies, theaters and in performances. Her works represented in many private and institutional collection. She is presented her works on the prestigious Kochi-Muziris Bienniale in India.
