Szentpéterváron él és dolgozik.

Vitaly Pushnitsky gyakran keresztezi a médiumokat, festmények mellett installációkat, szobrokat és rajzokat is készít. Művészetének központi problematikája az idő és a tér viszonya, valamint a művészet eredete és jelen státusza. Munkássága tulajdonképpen egy folyamatos időutazás múlt és jelen között, ami talán festményeinek képi világán követhető le legpontosabban. Fekete-fehér, tondo formájú vásznai egyszerre idéznek klasszikus és kortárs pillanatokat, hangulatokat. A kör spirituális tematizálása, egyik központi témája művészetének, de festészete általában transzcendentális, szakrális jellegű, ami erős szálakkal kötődik az orosz ikon hagyományaihoz. Máskor mintha a szocialista realizmus és a kortárs poszt-szocialista történeti jellegű festészet keveréke lenne. Kisméretű kollázsai nyugati művészettörténeti utalásokkal teli kompozíciók, akárcsak a középkori és reneszánsz képek reprodukcióiból alkotott absztrahált térstruktúrákból álló sorozata.
